Behind the scenes of a special weekend
In recent days, Ducati published on YouTube a special episode of the Vlog INSIDE Ducati entirely focused on the WDW event at the beginning of July in Misano, where the Borgo Panigale company celebrated its first 100 years of history by inviting – besides today’s riders – also all the stars of the past, from Troy Bayliss to Loris Capirossi, including Carl Fogarty and Casey Stoner. Besides the Race of Champions on Sunday, which saw Nicolò Bulega triumph, during the weekend there were several exhibition events featuring riders of all generations who shared the track together.

In the ‘behind the scenes’ video, one of the most entertaining parts concerns these side events, especially for the passion that riders – both current and former – still show for motorcycles in their purest form, with wheelies, ‘brutal’ throttle application, and everything else. Before the ‘Victory Lap’ of the Ducati legends, it was explained to the riders that the anti-wheelie controls of the motorcycles used for the parade would be disabled, allowing the riders to wheelie at their pleasure. A possibility that immediately made the Ducati legend of the ’90s, Carl Fogarty, four-time WSBK world champion, very happy.
“Really? Yeaaah!“, Foggy commented when he was given the news: “Yesterday I tried but [the bike] dropped…“. Less enthusiastic about this idea was Fogarty’s wife, Mrs. Michaela, who has always been fundamental in the Blackburn champion’s career. “Nooo, keep it on, no wheelies“, she suggested. However, this time Foggy had the final word: “Turn it off, turn it off…“.

But beware of thinking that today’s riders are less passionate and eager to put on a show. Just look at Francesco Bagnaia who, on the occasion of his last WDW of his career, since next year he will be an Aprilia rider, wanted to fully enjoy the experience.
Once the Parade Lap was over, Pecco, chatting with Davide Tardozzi and the Ducati team men, expressed all his pleasure for having been able to push the bike with the nose up: “How cool without the controls – commented a very amused Bagnaia – this way [the bike] wheelies hard!“. “I saw the first one you did! Boom!” Tardozzi echoed, miming the wheelie gesture with his hands. Because the passion for motorcycles has no age and the fun, for those who love this lifestyle, always remains the same.
