Audi’s debut
The four rings are ready to take to the track for the first time in a Formula 1 race. The Melbourne GP scheduled for Sunday will be historic, not only because it is the first with the revolutionary 2026 regulations, but also because Audi is making its debut, having definitively replaced Sauber.

Between shakedowns and testing, the R26 showed the pace and speed to stay in the midfield pack. With four teams appearing clearly superior, it is difficult to aim for the top 10 in Australia already, but between Hinwil and Neuburg, they don’t want to set limits: the only goal will be to grow and make the most of the car’s potential.
Hülkenberg’s words
“It’s really exciting to go to Melbourne for the first race of a completely new era and for Audi’s debut,” commented Nico Hülkenberg. “It’s been a long journey and it’s taken a long time, but now, finally, we’re here: you can feel the excitement in the team, including at the Hinwil and Neuburg factories. The work done behind the scenes has been enormous, and now it’s time to turn it into action. Albert Park is a unique circuit, more like a street circuit, and I’m not sure it will fully show the potential of all the teams: at the same time, it’s a place that can produce chaotic races. It’s the perfect place for the season opener and I can’t wait to get back to racing.”

Bortoleto’s words
“Starting a new season is always a fantastic feeling, and this one is obviously special for all of us, as we begin our journey as Audi,” added Gabriel Bortoleto. “Pre-season was important to get familiar with the new car and understand well how it behaves with the new rules: we did a good number of kilometers and I believe we used this time well to complete all the objectives of our program. Now, however, is the time when things really start to count. I live for racing and I can’t wait to feel the excitement of a race weekend again. It’s the first race of another long season, my second in Formula 1. The new cars offer a fresh start to all drivers, regardless of experience, and this could be a good opportunity. Our goal will be to build a good rhythm from the start of the weekend and get the most out of the package.”
