The celebration for Antonelli at the Italian GP
The fans of Ferrari who came in large numbers to Monza hoping for the third seasonal victory of the Maranello Red this season, did not get the result they hoped to celebrate. But they still largely greeted with joy the triumph of Andrea Kimi Antonelli who, starting from the 19th grid position, also gave a sense of achievement to the historic first victory of an Italian driver in the Italian GP since 1966 to today. An event that, in short, ends with an unpredictable result on the eve and makes the World Championship organizers happy: also celebrating at the end of the race is Stefano Domenicali, who told Sky he was also moved after speaking with Antonelli’s family after the GP checkered flag.

“To tell the truth – explains the president and CEO of Formula 1 – I did not think Antonelli could win. But he fully deserved this victory, he also took risks that show the champion he is. I just came out of a meeting with Kimi’s parents and I was moved. The reference is precisely to the fact that Kimi Antonelli was celebrated by the vast majority of the public, even in red Ferrari shirts: “Our sport has a maturity that has nothing to envy to anyone else, and I say it proudly as a person who is part of this environment. In other situations there are tensions, difficult situations, ugly to see, and instead here people obviously come to cheer for their drivers, but then there is still a triumph of flags, of different colors, which makes our sport unique”.
Domenicali does not commit on Imola
There is no progress for the moment, at least in words, on the possibility that Italy will host a second GP this season. The Imola track is heavily favored to replace the season finale in Abu Dhabi, although to a direct question the Imola manager dodges: “For now let’s celebrate Kimi, let’s celebrate Mercedes who has shown to be strong, let’s also celebrate an Alpine pole with Gasly who has shown that Formula 1 presents us with many unpredictable situations. The championship offers different situations, it was a splendid race as, I must say, almost all those this year have been”. “So now we go to Madrid, a new track where the walls are closer and where we could experience other emotions together”, concluded Stefano Domenicali.
