That would be enough to get a big head. Instead, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is really living this story, keeps his head firmly focused on the goal: which is not the title, but to do the best possible in every single race. The Bolognese Mercedes driver said this very clearly in the press conference following the GP won in Madrid.

Credit also to dad Marco, who in the ‘Antonelli team’ is the one tasked with keeping Kimi always grounded: “I’m lucky to have really fantastic people around me – Antonelli explained to journalists – I have an incredible team supporting me, a fantastic family. Above all, my father is the one who helps me keep my feet on the ground. Especially when he sees that, well, I might lose my way a bit, he doesn’t hesitate to scold me or simply tell me to come back down to earth”.

No dizziness
The championship standings, with that +81 over Russell clearly visible, do not make the #12 Mercedes driver dizzy: “For my part, as I have said many times, I simply try to give my best in every race, trying to really drive as fast as possible every time I get in the car. And then we’ll see where we end up at the end of the year. But I definitely don’t want to complicate things too much or drive worrying about the championship or the result. I just focus on driving, giving my best”. The plan seems to be working.
