Alonso returns to a special podium
In the Driver of the Day ranking of the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix, Lando Norris holds the first position. The reigning world champion achieved this placement thanks to the victory secured at Zandvoort and the excellent overall performance, but several fans voted for another driver who, for several races now, has never even been in contention for the podium: Fernando Alonso. The Spanish Aston Martin driver, who recently turned 45, was indeed the protagonist of an applause-worthy performance, regardless of the updates brought by the team and the new Honda power unit, so much so that he finished just behind Norris in this particular recognition.
The return to the top 10
The two-time world champion showed all his talent by crossing the finish line in ninth position, which represents the best placement in a troubled season for the Silverstone team after the 10th place in Monaco (also achieved by Alonso), but not only that. The Asturian was the protagonist of a true strategic masterpiece, having finished the race with only one pit stop: “It’s fantastic to finish in the points here at Zandvoort. I didn’t expect it, so it’s thanks to the team for making the most of everything we had. We still have some drivability issues, but this weekend is another step forward. We will use this momentum and continue to work hard to get the most out of the car.”

Less fortunate, however, was the race of teammate Lance Stroll, forced to retire. The Canadian also highlighted the need to improve the car’s drivability: “We suffered damage that compromised the car’s performance. We had no pace and were sliding a lot, so we stopped early to put on hard tires, but unfortunately it was useless. There is still a lot of work to do to improve the car’s drivability.”
