Hunting for his brother
By now Alex Marquez is no longer the other brother, but a two-time world champion who is also the reigning MotoGP runner-up. The role of main contender – at least on paper – to the throne held by his brother Marc therefore belongs to him. In the press conference presenting the Thailand GP, the Gresini team rider acknowledged being more ready than in the past to play a leading role, but preferred to avoid overly ambitious proclamations.

“In the Sepang tests we were the fastest and we did a great job, but we had many things to try. Being 100% happy is impossible at the moment, because we would all like to have more test days – Alex Marquez observed in the press conference – consistency of performance will be the key aspect for the championship. Fighting for the title? Now I feel more prepared. The step we took between 2024 and 2025 was huge. Last year I didn’t have the experience to deal with certain situations. But this year we don’t have to change our mentality, we have to take it one race at a time“.

“In some situations that arose last year I didn’t have the experience – the younger of the Marquez brothers added – and it was strange to find myself fighting with riders I usually watched from afar. At a certain point in the season I thought too much about the championship and not about getting the most out of my bike. I will try to improve this aspect and I hope to find myself in the same situation this year. Me closer to Marc? The race weekend will show us. After the first three or four races we will understand our level and what our goal will be“.
