Stellantis and Mutares have announced that they have reached an agreement for the sale to the latter of the group’s entire shareholding in the Free2move car-sharing activities. The completion of the transaction is expected by the end of 2026, subject to the usual closing conditions. The operation concerns the mobility platform active through a mobile app, which allows access to short and long-term car-sharing services without fixed stations, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Stellantis sells Free2move to Mutares
Free2move manages one of the car sharing platforms with the most diversified geographic coverage, thanks to a presence in 14 cities across Europe and the USA. The service offering is based on integrated on-demand mobility solutions, with an operational fleet management designed to meet the needs of users and territories. In this context, the transaction announced by the parties also fits into Stellantis’ broader strategic vision, consistent with the FaSTLAne 2030 plan: an approach aimed at disciplined capital allocation, directing investments and resources towards areas, brands, and technologies capable of generating the highest returns.
Goodbye car-sharing
For Mutares, the acquisition of Free2move’s car sharing activities represents the creation of a new platform in the mobility sector. Plans include renewed management of the international fleet, continuation of the transition to electric mobility, and greater attention both to customer experience and the needs of local administrations. The operation remains subject to information and consultation procedures with workers’ representatives, necessary regulatory approvals, and other conditions provided by applicable law. Virgilio Cerutti, Head of Business Development & Partnerships at Stellantis, emphasized the intention to focus further on purely automotive activities to ensure sustainable results.
