F1 Hungary, Free Practice 3 report
The last free practice session in Hungary before this afternoon’s qualifying saw the surprising return to the top of the reigning world champion. Lando Norris indeed set the fastest time in FP3, positioning McLaren for a starring role in the crucial phase of the weekend.

However, the main focus remains entirely on the challenge between Ferrari and Mercedes, with the performance levels seemingly much closer than yesterday: the second position in the session was taken by Lewis Hamilton, who was 117 thousandths of a second off Norris’s time and in turn preceded World Championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli by just 12 thousandths. The young Mercedes talent, who probably paid for his absence from the FP1 session yesterday, is fully competitive again today and will certainly be in contention for pole position.
However, the other Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc, also performed well, finishing fourth a couple of tenths behind his teammate. All drivers from the four top teams confirmed their positions in the top eight, with Piastri, Russell, Verstappen, and Hadjar in order.
The top-10 was completed by Liam Lawson’s Racing Bulls and Nico Hulkenberg’s Audi. These two teams seem to be the main contenders for the last two spots available for Q3, unless, of course, unexpected twists occur in qualifying.
