Aston Martin’s attempts
This weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix will be interesting in many respects, one of which will focus on Aston Martin. So far, the Silverstone team has had an absolutely disastrous season with both drivers always at the back, and will try to change course first with an expected package of updates at the Hungaroring, and then bring a ‘2.0’ version of the Honda Engine to Zandvoort. The team, which had hoped for significantly higher results even after Adrian Newey’s arrival, is therefore in full difficulty, with Fernando Alonso in turn disappointed by the chances of fighting for victory having effectively vanished.

Alonso’s ‘tomorrow’
The Spaniard, who will turn 45 next week, also focused on what his future in F1 might be. The two-time world champion’s contract will expire at the end of this championship, but more than the results and the real potential of the car, what convinces him less about continuing his career in the Circus are the regulations introduced this year, also contested by other drivers. The decision to continue or not in 2027, as stated to the media, will therefore depend on this season’s rules, the same ones Alonso has criticized multiple times.

Alonso’s words
“This weekend’s updates will not influence my future decision, because they will not be based on this year’s performance. This season we started on the wrong foot and I cannot base my decision for next year on unrealistic performance. I think this does not represent the true potential of the team, which I believe is much higher than what we see. I think my decision for next year depends more on the regulations. Driving these cars on circuits like Spa or Silverstone is not what I dream for my future. So we will see. We had great hopes for these regulations and for Adrian’s arrival in the team and at Honda and things like that. Expectations were very high and we did not meet them, so it was simply disappointing to see the car in Barcelona and Bahrain. At the same time, everyone in the team saw it as a challenge and wants to make it work. They will come back and we hope that Budapest is the first step towards returning to performance, and I think the right direction is within the team.”
