Norris ‘Snitch’
There was a minor replay incident at the start of the Monaco GP, which was quickly resolved. Race control indeed investigated George Russell during the first laps of the race for his alleged incorrect positioning on the starting grid. The Mercedes Englishman was ultimately ‘acquitted’ and the investigation concluded with no action taken, as the stewards determined there were no irregularities in how Russell parked his W17 in the starting slot.

The curious thing, however, is how this investigation originated. Indeed, it was his compatriot Lando Norris who reported Russell’s alleged infringement, who, with McLaren, was starting directly behind the silver arrow #63 on the grid. The reigning world champion reported Russell’s positioning to his pit via radio, and from there the stewards’ investigation was initiated, which, however, concluded with no action taken.

Perez’s Blunder
Quite different, however, was the outcome of the investigation against Sergio Perez. The Cadillac driver indeed committed a rather blatant infringement, by choosing the wrong starting slot and placing himself in Gabriel Bortoleto’s spot, who had left his position free as the team had decided to start him from the pit-lane. The former Red Bull Mexican was severely penalized with a drive-through.
