Antonelli, an exciting pole
After the wonderful pole position obtained in Monte Carlo, Andrea Kimi Antonelli seems to have definitively blossomed and convinced even the most skeptical about his talent. The Italian magically danced between the curves, curbs, and walls of the Principality, taking pole position – his fourth of the season – by just 43 thousandths of a second over Max Verstappen.
Antonelli is surprising and exciting, despite being 19 years old, which bodes well for his future in Formula 1. And Toto Wolff was captivated by his start to the season.

Wolff jumps up and shouts: it’s a Mercedes party
And it’s worth noting Toto Wolff’s liberating shout as soon as Antonelli secured pole position: a “Yes” exclaimed with a mix of anger and joy, which made him jump to his feet and celebrate like the most ardent fan.
After all, Andrea Kimi has been Toto Wolff’s biggest gamble since he joined Mercedes, when he chose him to replace none other than Lewis Hamilton – who had won 6 world titles with the Silver Arrows.

In interviews, Toto Wolff, much more composed, immediately wanted to ask Antonelli for concentration: “I hope we can get the clutch release point right and then Kimi will have to spread out like a bus, like a tourist bus driving around Monaco. If you lose at the start and are not in front, it will be really tough” and he admitted: “I haven’t been this excited in a long time, it was a really tight qualifying session. We could see how he built the pole, session after session. He has that ease and naturalness typical of youth.”
