An insidious weekend
Marco Bezzecchi commented with satisfaction to Sky Sport MotoGP microphones on the outcome of Friday’s day at Balaton Park. The World Championship leader, fresh from his fantastic victory at Mugello, set the sixth fastest time in Practice, securing the fundamental goal of direct access to Q2 tomorrow. The Aprilia rider, however, warned everyone about a weekend that promises to be full of obstacles.

“Today was a good first day. It’s true that Pedro made quite a significant difference, so it’s tough, but the goal today was to get into Q2 and we succeeded, so we’re happy. There are still many things to fix, so you should never sit back for a moment. But it’s a decent first day. Medium at the rear for the Sprint? Especially here, on a track where the grip isn’t bad, it would be better to be able to use the soft. It’s true that today I also tried the medium and I felt good with it, but let’s say that the track conditions, in my opinion, will progress tomorrow. I have more or less the same feelings as Raúl, in the sense that I also suffer a bit with the soft, especially on the front tire. Sometimes, however, we are a bit forced because the Sprint lasts only a few laps and maybe the working window of the medium starts halfway through the Sprint.”

“Crucial Turn 1? Yes, I agree – Bezzecchi observed – they have re-asphalted and managed to do a good job in terms of removing the bumps, but as for grip, it is much, much worse. So we need to understand how to do it, hoping that conditions will improve there too with a bit of rubber. But yes, it’s a complicated point. It already was before, now it’s even more difficult because the front tire constantly locks up and it feels like having ABS.”
