Mugello Practice, Bezzecchi 7th
Marco Bezzecchi secured direct access to Q2 by finishing the Mugello Practice in seventh place, the second best among non-Ducati riders behind Enea Bastianini, an excellent third on KTM.
The World Championship leader had a less flashy Friday compared to the Borgo Panigale riders, but brought home a solid day in an extremely balanced context, with the top-10 packed within three and a half tenths. In front of the home crowd, the Romagna rider now aims to improve in time attack, while he is already very satisfied with the race pace.
Bezzecchi’s words
“The time attack made me suffer more, but I felt a bit better with the race pace. Certainly Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia, Morbidelli, Bastianini, and Marquez were all super fast. Moreover, it seems to me that from race pace to time attack they managed to make a bigger step compared to us, they were a bit better. I did a 45.0 in the first time attack with the soft, then I did a 44.9 but they took it away because I touched a little bit of green,” this was his comment to Sky Sport MotoGP. “I wasn’t very effective in putting together all the sectors, the only lap that came out a bit better was taken away from me.”
“We had to work on many things, so we didn’t have time to do a real race simulation, we wanted to understand a bit the difference between the medium and the soft, which are both good tires,” he added. “It was still a good day, because we are fast, we just need to manage to improve a bit more.”
