Safety at the center, but not for everyone
At Mugello one of the main topics of discussion in the paddock continues to be safety, after the two dramatic accidents in Barcelona that involved – in terms of more serious physical consequences – first Alex Marquez and then Johann Zarco. Italian riders in particular seem to be among the most sensitive to this issue. Among those who have clearly spoken out was Enea Bastianini, who reiterated that he wants to be present this afternoon at 6:00 PM in what promises to be a particularly relevant and delicate Safety Commission.

Bastianini on the attack
“This time I will go too, because the time has come to make ourselves heard – explained the Tech3 team rider during the Italian GP media day – we saw in Barcelona that the situation is delicate“. No one thinks they can solve MotoGP’s problems with a magic wand and naturally there remains an intrinsic component of unavoidable danger in the sport. But Bastianini, unlike Fabio Quartararo, is among those who believe that gathering and discussing possible solutions can be useful.

“Obviously motorsport is like that – emphasized the Beast – you can try to change certain dynamics or certain situations but even with more safety probably [the accidents] would have happened anyway, especially in the first case, between Alex [Marquez] and Pedro [Acosta]. However, I believe that we must do better and have our own association to protect us. We must be the first riders to be more united, that is what is missing“, Bastianini then bitterly concluded. We will see if after today’s Safety Commission there will be a move towards greater unity of purpose. At the moment, it seems difficult.
