Ferrari enters a new era. A completely electric era, which sees as its first step the debut of the new Luce. The design of the first EV from the Maranello house was developed based on an architecture that indeed allows for four doors and five seats, an absolute novelty for the Prancing Horse as the transaxle configuration with a front-mid combustion engine and rear gearbox does not allow the insertion of a fifth seat. The final result is a shape without compromises, similar to that of a shell, which extends below the beltline to the ends of the car.

The new Ferrari Luce

The front and rear lights are an integral part of the primary surfaces and, when off, the optical elements seem to disappear. In particular, the round rear lights celebrate the beauty and formal clarity of the 360 Modena and the 458 Italia. Special mention for the specific wheel design: the new Luce features the largest diameters ever adopted on a road Ferrari, 23″ at the front and 24″ at the rear.

Inside, buttons, knobs, selectors, and precision mechanical switches coexist with multifunction digital displays developed together with Samsung Display. The materials are authentic and pure: the Maranello brand has focused on recycled anodized aluminum, Corning Gorilla glass, and high-quality leather. The new audio system, with 21 speakers and 24-channel amplification delivering 3,000 W, integrates the innovative Ferrari Audio Signature and offers dedicated presets, individual listening optimization, and dynamic compensations.

Over 1,040 HP of power

And now to the powertrain component, the real novelty of this model. Ferrari Luce is born on a platform designed ad hoc with a dedicated chassis: the overall curb weight is around 2,260 kg. The 0-100 km/h sprint is done in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, the top speed exceeds 310 km/h thanks to a total maximum power of 1,040 HP while the declared range is over 530 km. The car is powered by four electric motors, one per wheel, and is equipped with a high-capacity 122 kWh battery. Completing the overview are active suspensions derived from the F80 and an independent rear steering axle.

Suspensions and electric all-wheel drive

Furthermore, the car is equipped on each wheel with a actuator for traction and regeneration, one for the steering angle, and one to control vertical movement. Each of the Ferrari Luce wheels is therefore fully coordinated with the dynamics requested by the driver, who perceives a single fluid movement. Translated: not only does the steering wheel steer, but also the torque vectoring and the elastic balance of the suspensions contribute to the change of direction.

“Artificial” sound

As for the sound, a precision accelerometer placed in the heart of the axle captures the live texture and metallic vibrations generated by the rotating parts in real time. The system filters, equalizes the signal, and amplifies only the noble components when functional to driving. The sound level is based on the position of the e-Manettino and the mode of use of the paddles on the steering wheel. The sound emission occurs through an external amplification system. Finally, the rolling noise is extremely attenuated thanks to the first elastic subframe in Maranello’s history, active suspensions, and optimization of masses, stiffness, and soundproofing.

Manettino and e-Manettino

Returning to driving dynamics, the driver manages the car via the e-Manettino, which modulates power and traction, and the iconic five-position Manettino equipped with logics that adapt to grip conditions. Also debuting on the Ferrari Luce is the Vehicle Control Unit, more conveniently known as VCU, the control center that brings together powertrain and dynamics updating all targets 200 times per second and coordinating efficiency strategies with the controls of the new Side Slip Control X. Two other merits: the electric all-wheel drive, a first for a Ferrari, and the new torque shift engagement with extended regeneration.
