Viñales: “Dover having three starts was not ideal for my shoulder”

The shock and fear

The Catalonia Grand Prix turned into a difficult event for all riders, due to the race being stopped twice because of accidents that left everyone holding their breath over the conditions of Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco. Fortunately, at the end of the race, both the Spaniard and the Frenchman wanted to reassure everyone with brief messages posted on their respective Instagram profiles.

Complicated weekend

A not easy race also for the Tech3 team, albeit for other reasons: in a weekend when the multi-year renewal with KTM was announced, Enea Bastianini ended the Catalan GP early due to a crash without consequences, prior to the first red flag being shown: It was a very difficult weekend for me – said the rider from Rimini – my speed was good from the start on Friday and after the warm-up things looked promising for the race. I had a bad start, but I was trying to recover positions and was very close to the group of riders fighting for seventh place when I lost power, and that was the end. The main thing, however, is to hope that Álex Márquez is okay: I saw his accident from outside and it was terrible. I don’t yet know his condition, but I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.”

A not easy comeback

In Barcelona, the return to the track of Maverick Viñales was witnessed, absent from the Americas GP due to a shoulder injury. The Spaniard finished in 11th place, which represents his best result of the season, admitting he still suffered pain once again: Having to do three starts was not ideal for my shoulder because of the need to warm up each time, but the pace was good and the bike’s balance excellent. My main problem is that I can’t maintain enough speed in the corners, which causes me to wear the tires too much, but the team had a good strategy and I managed to complete the race, which was the most important thing for me. We have a lot of data available and now it will be crucial to work on the details. The plan is to do long runs in testing to accumulate more laps. My goal is to get back to full fitness as soon as possible and Mugello will be another good test, as it is a very physical circuit. Ultimately, I just need time on track.”
