Lamborghini announces: the fourth model will be hybrid

Lamborghini’s U-turn on electric. It was announced by Stephan Winkelmann, head of the House of the Bull, who however does not want to hear talk of a step back regarding the sector’s ambitions. “We have thoroughly analyzed customer tastes and concluded that the market is not ready. We are, the customers are not,” he told today’s edition of La Stampa. The numbers don’t lie: Winkelmann himself cannot fail to see that demand has flattened compared to initial forecasts.

The fourth Lamborghini model will be hybrid

“And for high-performance cars it has practically dropped to zero,” he admitted. Reason why Lamborghini’s strategy is changing: the fourth model will be hybrid. “It will be a classic GT, two-door, low, inspired by our tradition with models like the Jarama, the Espada and the 400 GT”, he made known. And he added that in plug-in hybrids, the House of the Bull will confirm the internal combustion engine for as long as possible. We have years to decide: the new car will be released in 2030, Winkelmann’s announcement.

There is time for electric

Lambo’s number one then focused on the Euro 7 regulation which lowers decibels and throttles the sound: “This is a problem, because engine noise is iconic for us. We are evaluating how to solve this ‘trouble’ with exemptions for small manufacturers. In Europe they are valid until 2028, we are negotiating to extend them. In the USA, with political changes, things are instead evolving. The global trend is to lower emissions, but scrappage campaigns would be enough instead of pushing only on electric: the old fleet of vehicles pollutes more than new cars.”

2025 excellent year

Final remark on the 2025 results and the future: It was an excellent year, but we are not aiming to make 15.000 thousand cars a year. Product “scarcity” is crucial, even with many new features coming. I won’t reveal details, but there will be surprises, perhaps spider variants. Those who buy a Lambo know what they want, and we understand it without hypocrisy. An important key: 94% of the cars we sell are heavily customized. The Chinese risk is real: they produce at low costs, but we offer real, dynamic emotions, not just beautiful objects. Emotion is in the dynamics: steering wheel, seat, handling. Electric has accelerations that make you feel sick, but our DNA is in the way of driving, in the sensations.”
