The injuries sustained in Hungary
The chances of seeing Miguel Oliveira back on track for the Most Round, scheduled for next week in the Czech Republic, were relatively very low. The former MotoGP rider, involved in a contact between Locatelli and Sam Lowes in the first lap of the Superpole Race at Balaton Park, suffered a concussion and a left shoulder injury, as well as a fracture to the scapula and ribs. Hospitalized for examinations, since then the recovery aimed at the 31-year-old’s return to the track for the fifth championship round has begun, but this will not happen.

The official announcement
BMW, in fact, has officially announced his absence for the upcoming first Round, with the rider declared unfit for the race weekend: “Obviously I am very sorry, since with Saturday’s podium in Hungary we showed that we are on the right path towards success – Oliveira commented – unfortunately injuries are things that happen in races. Now I will focus on getting back to 100% fitness to return as soon as possible on the BMW M 1000 RR. Thanks to everyone who helped me after the injury in Hungary. Thanks also to Mickey (Van der Mark), I know that at Most my bike will be in good hands. I underwent several CT scans and head exams to be sure everything was fine and to rule out serious complications. Fortunately, the result was negative despite having sustained some significant injuries to the tendons and muscles around the scapula, as well as fractures to the scapula and ribs. Now a new phase begins, the focus is not only on a quick return to the track, but on a 100% return and doing things the right way, we must respect the recovery process to be sure that when I come back, it will be because I am ready to race. I know it will require a lot of hard work and patience, but one thing is certain, I will do everything possible to come back even stronger.”

The return
Replacing the Portuguese at Most will be BMW test rider Michael van der Mark, who returns as an official rider less than a year after his last experience as teammate of reigning champion Toprak Razgatlioglu: “First of all, I wish Miguel a speedy recovery, I am ready and will give my all to readapt quickly. My task will be to support BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the team in the best possible way at Most, gathering important data for the rest of the season, and of course bringing home as many points as possible.”
