F1 Miami, Sprint Qualifying Report
Just like in 2024, Florida could rejuvenate McLaren. Miami confirms itself as an almost magical track for the papaya team, who secure the Sprint pole position thanks to Lando Norris, the only one to go under 1:28 (1:27.869). Beside him, a very skilled Kimi Antonelli who exited the pits last in SQ3 and thus limited the damage against McLaren: the Bolognese edges out Oscar Piastri by 17 thousandths, confirming how well Woking’s updates worked at least today.
Regulations change, and for now the sensations conveyed by the “new” F1 also improve, with clipping present but not exaggerated as in the first three events. However, the behavior of a Ferrari that continues to lose competitiveness at the crucial moment of qualifying does not change: Charles Leclerc, after leading in free practice, SQ1 and SQ2, must settle for the second row after a mistake in turn 11. It goes worse for Lewis Hamilton, seventh on the grid despite a good first sector.
In the third row Max Verstappen and George Russell, perhaps the most disappointed of the day with a full four-tenths behind Antonelli, a strong performance from Alpine (double SQ3). At the back, the disastrous season for Aston Martin continues, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll not even setting fast laps. They will start sadly from the last row, behind the Cadillacs.
