Rain risk in Miami
It is fair to say that in F1 it rains, or could rain, on the wet. The regulatory changes approved on April 20 were supposed to have the Miami GP as the first test, but the weather forecast for Sunday does not inspire optimism. Even if on Sunday there was “only” rain and not the feared storm (in the latter case the very running of the race would be in question), F1 would face another variable that adds chaos and safety concerns.

The FIA, already harshly criticized for Oliver Bearman‘s accident in Suzuka, does not want to be targeted again and last night called an emergency meeting with drivers and teams to assess possible scenarios for Miami: “We will meet with the Federation, because apparently the forecasts are not at all promising“, commented Sergio Perez in a press conference.
The FIA’s comment
“We are closely monitoring the weather forecasts for this weekend“, said a Federation spokesperson. “Having already faced a similar situation last year in Miami, with the risk of storms, we have prepared an emergency plan that we will activate, if necessary, to minimize disruptions to the on-track schedule“. If needed, the FIA may move the GP start time, as was done in 2024 at Interlagos.

No boost
In case of rain, drivers will not be able to activate the boost mode to facilitate overtaking on the wet. The straight line mode – where drivers open the wings in designated zones – will also be limited: the rule changes provide that in low grip conditions only “partial activation of the driver-adjustable bodywork” is allowed.
