Bezzecchi makes a statement

Marco Bezzecchi was the fastest in FP1 and Practice, putting a significant gap between himself and the competition. The Aprilia rider stopped the clock at 1’28″526, almost half a second faster than Marc Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio in a session made tricky by a few drops of rain. Pedro Acosta and Jorge Martin also did very well; Alex Marquez, Joan Mir, Brad Binder, Ai Ogura, and Johann Zarco completed the list of riders directly admitted to Q2. Nothing doing for Francesco Bagnaia, who will have to go through Q1.

09.59 – Bagnaia sets off for his last chance.

09.58 – Bezzecchi retakes the lead of the standings in 1’28″526. Marc Marquez is second by four tenths.

09.57 – Ogura crashes at Turn 7.

09.55 – Alex Marquez improves, snatching fifth position from his brother Marc, so the track still allows for improvements. Everyone is on track for the grand finale, but Bagnaia has run out of new tires.

09.53 – Impeding by Pirro on Alex Marquez, who was improving.

09.51 – The rain seems to have definitely arrived now; this could therefore be the final classification.

09.50 – This is the top-15 with 10 minutes remaining.

09.48 – Zarco has moved into eighth position, Raul Fernandez drops out of the top 10. Bagnaia is 20th.

09.47 – The third sector now seems to be the most slippery.

09.46 – Marquez sets off again with a new rear tire.

09.45 – Di Giannantonio lowers to 1’29″010.

09.44 – Martin overtakes Acosta and is third.

09.43 – Martin has moved into fourth position ahead of Marc Marquez.

09.42 – Quartararo works miracles, but doesn’t go beyond thirteenth position. He lapped six tenths faster than Rins, who is the second Yamaha.

09.40 – The sun returns, Acosta moves up to third position, Marc Marquez to fourth, Bezzecchi remains second.

09.38 – The riders are returning to the pits, it’s raining.

09.36 – Times are going up in T2, there’s already some rain there.

09.35 – Raul Fernandez moves up to seventh position, Zarco drops out of the top 10. Marquez goes wide at Turn 3.

09.33 – The sky is now black over the Buriram circuit. Marc Marquez is about to set off.

09.30 – Mir has moved into sixth position, pushing Raul Fernandez out of the top 10. Marc Marquez is 12th, Bagnaia 18th.

09.28 – We’ll see if all riders now head out on track with new tires to avoid being caught out by the rain.

09.26 – Moreira seems to have his Honda definitely ‘under control’.

09.25 – Rain seems to be coming.

09.24 – Razgatlioglu goes wide at Turn 3.

09.23 – Razgatlioglu moves up to 20th position ahead of Rins and Pirro.

09.21 – Bagnaia returns to the pits, the changes don’t seem to have had the desired effect; Marc Marquez, however, returns to the track.

09.20 – Below is the top-15 after the first 20 minutes of Practice.

09.18 – Bagnaia takes to the track again with a pair of soft tires after some changes made in the pits.

09.15 – Di Giannantonio fails to improve, stopping 80 thousandths short of his own time.

09.12 – Di Giannantonio moves ahead of Bezzecchi by one thousandth, 1’29″191 is the new benchmark for this session.

09.11 – Di Giannantonio has moved into second position, Ogura has moved up to fourth.

09.10 – Ogura has moved into seventh position.

09.08 – This is the top 10: Bezzecchi, Alex Marquez, Martin, Martini, Acosta, Morbidelli, Bastianini, Marc Marquez, Vinales, and Zarco.
