Lambiase to McLaren in 2028
During F1’s forced April break, certainly the most surprising news was Gianpiero Lambiase’s departure from Red Bull for the 2028 season.
The team’s head of engineers, as well as Max Verstappen’s race engineer, has indeed decided to accept McLaren’s offer, where he will take on the role of Chief Racing Officer.

Why is Lambiase leaving Red Bull?
Concurrently with the news, it immediately emerged that McLaren’s proposal to Lambiase was one that was difficult to refuse.
Max Verstappen then hinted at it in an interview in the following days: “He explained the type of offer he received, and I told him he would be a fool not to accept it.”
Even more direct and explicit was Jos Verstappen on the X platform, in response to a Dutch article explaining that Lambiase had chosen to join McLaren “for the attractiveness of teams for F1’s top talents.”
Max’s father cut it short: “Because they offer him a lot of money!”, leaving very little room for interpretation.
