Francesco Bagnaia after the excellent second place in Saturday’s Sprint at the United States GP failed to confirm his performance, finishing in tenth position due to a worrying end to the race in terms of performance.
Pecco explained what happened to Sky‘s microphones as follows: “Since the warm-up I didn’t feel comfortable, I couldn’t be fast, so in the race I tried to be as gentle as possible with the tires, I didn’t push as much at the beginning as Di Giannantonio did, for example, who immediately went to try to close the gap with the leading trio, but when I reached him on the eighth lap I already had no tire left.”
“With three laps to go I tried to do a slightly harder lap to defend myself from Marc Marquez and Bastianini, but it was the final blow for the tire and in the end I had to lap very slowly – Bagnaia added – the rear tire just disintegrated. Fightback at Jerez? It’s a track where it’s fundamental that the bike turns, but we’re missing something in that aspect. For sure in the tests we will try something important, at this moment Aprilia does whatever it wants.”
