Differences compared to the first GP
The latest term that Formula 1 fans have had to learn to familiarize themselves with following the introduction of the new technical regulations is super clipping, that is, the phenomenon – caused by the type of the new power units – that causes the slowing down of the car on a full straight despite the driver keeping the throttle pressed to the maximum. Not exactly the best for those racing in Formula 1, as teams and drivers had the opportunity to experience, in spite of themselves, in Australia.

According to what was explained when presenting what will be the Chinese GP weekend by the Williams team’s Chief Trackside Engineer, Paul Williams, this phenomenon should be reduced in the second race of the championship. “We expect energy management to be simpler than in Melbourne, with high cornering time at partial throttle reducing the need for super clipping – explained the Grove team engineer – The way teams manage usage, out-lap preparation, and traffic will once again be key to maximizing single-lap performance. In the past, careful selection of the rear wing level was necessary to balance downforce requirements with aerodynamic drag on long straights. With the introduction of active aerodynamics and the straight-line mode on four zones, this is no longer a major issue“.

“The track offers a demanding challenge with a mix of corners, changes of direction, and power-limited sections. The circuit is typically very front-limited, with long sequences of high-load corners, particularly the complex initial turn 1-2-3. This makes the car very sensitive to front axle load, with the graining on the front left representing a real threat. Even the first Sprint event of the season represents an additional challenge, with only one hour of free practice before the Sprint qualifying session”, Williams further explained.
