Mission accomplished: thanks to the Misano triumph, Marc Marquez is back at the top of the World Championship. A perfect weekend for the Spaniard, who collects another 37 points and catches Jorge Martin, who however has fewer wins. From Mugello to Misano, the reigning champion has recovered a gap of 102 points from the top of the championship: it seemed like a closed case, but he knew how to react like a champion, growing alongside Ducati and also taking advantage of numerous mistakes by others.

Another superb performance from the Ducati rider, who takes advantage of Marco Bezzecchi’s retirement (who started very well but crashed after just half a lap at Curvone), lets Martin vent before outsmarting him at Rio and heading towards his seventh MotoGP gem at the “Marco Simoncelli”. In a top-6 all Spanish, the podium is entirely Castilian with second place for Alex Marquez and P3 for an indomitable Pedro Acosta. Noteworthy are the performances of the latter, with #73 climbing from P9 and the Tiburón finishing 2″ behind the leader despite a KTM clearly less fast.

The big loser is Aprilia, with Bezzecchi betraying expectations and seeing a good part of the title hopes fly away. Martin, who was relying on a good pace, collapses in the second half of the GP and finishes fifth, even behind Fermin Aldeguer.

Spain dominates in Riviera, and to find the first Italian you have to go down to seventh place with Fabio Di Giannantonio (who started very badly and had an anonymous race). Closing the top-10 are Marini, Bastianini, and Quartararo. Another crash for Francesco Bagnaia, in the gravel at Variante del Parco: it is his fourth retirement in the last five GPs.

MotoGP returns to the track next week with the Red Bull Ring event, the last European round before the November championship finale. It starts on Friday 18 at 10:45 with FP1, at 15:00 the Practice; Saturday at 10:10 FP2, followed by Qualifying (Q1 at 10:50, Q2 at 11:15) and the 15:00 Sprint. Sunday the GP at 14:00.
