Misano, Martin settles in the Sprint
Jorge Martin limits the damage and secures an important third place in the Misano Sprint. The World Championship leader, starting from fifth position in the short race, manages to recover ground to claim P3, behind Marc Marquez and teammate Marco Bezzecchi. A valuable result for the Spaniard, the result of the smart choice of the medium rear tire and a great overtake on Fabio Di Giannantonio in the direction change at the Rio chicane.

The World Championship leader ends Saturday aware that he still has a gap to close compared to Marquez and Bezzecchi, but also satisfied to have obtained the maximum possible haul in the short race. At the end of the Sprint, he analyzed his performance as follows.
Martin’s words on the Misano Sprint
“I don’t know if this was the best result for me today, I definitely did what I could starting fifth“, this is Martin’s comment to Sky Sport MotoGP. “It was difficult to overtake Di Giannantonio with the medium rear, because I couldn’t gain meters on acceleration. It was hard to find the overtaking point, but then everything went very well. It’s a nice top-3 from me, but the first two are still far looking at the times, so we have to understand how to do better“.

“The overtake on Di Giannantonio was nice, I tried to brake very late because I saw that I was stronger on braking, while he was better on acceleration“, he added. “For tomorrow, I think with some adjustments I can be more competitive. If it will be enough to reach the first two, I don’t know, surely they will improve too, but I will try to start well and stay there“.
The fight for the World Championship is getting tighter and still sees Martin in the lead. The victory in the Misano Sprint allows Marquez to move to 14 points from the compatriot. Behind them, Bezzecchi remains fully in the running, 22 points behind the Spaniard.
