MotoGP Misano, Martin chases
Fourteen thousandths, nothing. But enough to allow Jorge Martin to enter Q2 at Misano and fight for pole position tomorrow on the circuit named after Marco Simoncelli. The championship leader outpaced Enea Bastianini but overall seemed less competitive compared to Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi.
Will it be another weekend of struggle for the Spaniard? Surely Martin does not feel at the level of the other two title contenders on a single lap, but he remains hopeful in light of a promising pace.
Martin’s words
“Getting into Q2 was not the only positive aspect of Friday. I struggled a bit with the soft, but with the medium I felt good, and I think the pace was good,” Martin commented to Sky Sport MotoGP. “I expected to struggle with the soft, but not that much. I think the team has the solution to help me, I also need to improve my riding, but it’s just a matter of time attack. Otherwise, I don’t feel that bad.”
“I have difficulty stopping the bike, I feel it pushing me forward and I don’t stop at all. This track has a lot of grip, and if you don’t stop you lose a lot of time. Surely Misano has its secrets and I have to understand them with Marco’s information, but I stay calm and think we can do well. Obviously, though, Bezzecchi and Marquez are on another level, and they have been for some races.”
In the World Championship, Martin has to defend himself from both Marquez and Bezzecchi, who are respectively at -19 and -24. And if he doesn’t fix the single lap, he will probably see his lead shrink further.
