F1 Madrid, the Free Practice 2 report
George Russell calls, Kimi Antonelli answers: in Madrid the Bolognese finishes Friday ahead of everyone with a time of 1:33.662. A further show of strength for the championship leader, this time on a track that hides dangers in every corner and requires enormous confidence in one’s own abilities and the car. Confidence that Antonelli, especially after the stunning victory in Monza, has through the roof. His time comes halfway through the session: no one beats it, also because Arvid Lindblad crashes at turn 13 and causes a ten-minute red flag.

After the interruption, everyone tries the race pace and so the standings are “frozen” with Antonelli ahead of the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who overtakes his teammate a few seconds before the red flag. The SF-26 improves with the soft tires compared to FP1, but it should be noted that George Russell (in P5) does not perform a clean time attack on the softs. He is beaten by Lindblad, who was a protagonist on Friday despite the accident.
Sixth position for Max Verstappen, who provides convincing indications on the race pace tried with the soft tires. Completing the top 10 are Piastri, Tsunoda, Ocon, and Lawson. Gearbox problems for Lando Norris, who indeed loses an entire session. Not the best way to approach Saturday on a track that is new to everyone.
