A weekend full of discoveries
F1 is about to debut on the city circuit of Madrid, the big new addition to the 2026 calendar. The city track will put teams and drivers to the test and there is great curiosity to see the highest expression of speed motorsport in action at the Madring.

The Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson – who will again replace the injured Isack Hadjar – presented the Iberian weekend like this.
“At Monza we achieved an excellent result and really made the most of our potential by getting on the podium – said Max Verstappen – looking at Madrid it is difficult to predict how we will do. It looks like a challenging track to drive, like most city circuits, especially because there are many tricky corners. We will also have to assess the level of grip when we go out on track on Friday and then start from there to improve. The free practice sessions will be important to gather as much information as possible before qualifying. That said, it is a new circuit for everyone and we hope to start off on the right foot.”

“Madrid will be an interesting weekend for everyone – added Liam Lawson – so far we have only tried the track on the simulator, so the first free practice session will tell us a lot about where we really stand. It is a unique circuit and the banked corner should make things interesting. Monza was a challenging weekend from the start, with the engine change that put us in difficulty, so it was hard to fully show what we are capable of. The positive aspect is that we found a good rhythm as the weekend went on, which gives us confidence looking ahead to Madrid.”
