Joys and Sorrows
The Monza weekend was very special for the Alpine team. On Saturday, the Enstone team celebrated the historic pole position achieved by Pierre Gasly and also Franco Colapinto partially joined the celebration, securing eighth place on the grid. In the race, both cars of the team led by Flavio Briatore managed to stay in the points zone, with Gasly finishing seventh and Colapinto ninth.

However, Sunday was not a day of celebration for the Argentine driver. Colapinto had a great start when the lights went out and after the second start he had reached fourth position; in fact, for a few moments Alpine’s #43 had pushed into the virtual podium, in third place.
But then there was a sudden off-track at Lesmo, which dropped the South American to the back of the pack. With a great comeback, Colapinto managed to recover up to ninth place, but speaking with Spanish-speaking journalists after the GP ended, the Enstone team driver was overcome with regret and frustration and broke down in tears analyzing his race.

“It was a tough race – commented Colapinto – there’s nothing to say, it’s really frustrating: I think I had a great opportunity and didn’t take advantage of it, so I’m sad, very sad. I think this could have been a great race with a great result. A very important opportunity was lost for the team and for me, so I’m a bit sad. We have to learn from it and move on”, he added between sobs.
The video of his crying in front of the microphones quickly went viral on social networks, also considering the huge following Colapinto enjoys not only in Argentina but throughout South America. The positive thing for him is that already this weekend there will be a new chance for redemption in Madrid, on a new circuit for everyone and where the support for the Alpine driver will certainly not be lacking.
