For the first time in Europe, Germany is putting together the entire ecosystem needed to accelerate the spread of hydrogen-powered heavy vehicles by 2030. The goal requires a combination of political support, a strong push from the industrial sector, and coordinated work along the entire value chain, from supplies to refueling infrastructure. In this context, Toyota explains, the initiative aims to make hydrogen a concrete and scalable solution for long-distance transport and industry.

Toyota praises the future of hydrogen
At the heart of the project is a structured collaboration between leading companies in the transport, energy, and technology sectors. Among the key players are Daimler Truck AG, Volvo Group, Toyota Motor Corporation, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility, MB Energy, who intend to join forces to build an ecosystem capable of supporting hydrogen mobility “from tank to road,” including the development of new vehicles, the creation of new infrastructure, and the availability of adequate refueling. The activities are designed to integrate different skills – truck and vehicle manufacturers, energy and industrial gas operators, technology suppliers, and mobility players – in order to create reliable conditions for the expansion of the zero-emission heavy vehicle market.
From Germany to Europe
Among the planned initiatives is also the spread of hydrogen refueling stations along strategic corridors in Europe, to follow the higher concentration of heavy traffic using this technology. A key element will also be the definition of a competitive hydrogen price, to support the economic sustainability of the transition. The details of the agreement will be presented at a press conference at IAA Transportation 2026, in Hannover, scheduled for September 15.
