Monza GP, Antonelli starts from the back
Now it is also official: Kimi Antonelli will start the Monza GP from the back of the grid. The same Bolognese had anticipated the penalty for introducing the fifth engine (compared to the four allowed), a decision later confirmed by Toto Wolff.
The Mercedes driver has used the fifth internal combustion engine, the fourth energy store (ES), and the fourth control unit (PU-CE), “exceeding” the allowed limit in all components. Having accumulated at least 15 penalty positions, Antonelli will start from the last row along with Alexander Albon (the Anglo-Thai driver also used the new engine).
The statement
This is the Federation’s statement on Antonelli’s grid penalty at Monza.

On the eve of Monza, Wolff commented on Antonelli’s penalty with practicality and realism, stating that Mercedes had to think long-term and use an extra power unit on the circuit where it was easier to recover positions.
