Acosta, what a mess at the start: wrong position and breaks a part of his KTM

A bit of confusion

Pedro Acosta, who finished fourth in the Aragon Sprint, was the protagonist of a curious episode just before the start of the short race, which could have made his Saturday decidedly less happy. Few noticed it live but on the starting grid, while all his colleagues were already in position ready to start, the KTM ‘shark’ was the protagonist of a chaotic ‘dance’ that certainly did not help his concentration before the lights went out.

At the end of the reconnaissance lap, in fact, Acosta realized he had positioned himself slightly ahead of his reference spot on the grid. Pedro then got off the bike and moved it by hand further back and slightly to the left, to correctly occupy the sixth box reserved for him. However, when getting back on the bike for the start, Acosta further complicated the situation, detaching a winglet from his RC16 with his right foot as he was getting into the saddle.

Damaged bike

The images do not clearly show which piece of his own bike Acosta accidentally detached, but from the front shot it is clear that there is something beside him, lying on the ground on the grid at the moment the lights go out. Fortunately, the piece was avoided by all the other bikes following the young Spanish talent, but Acosta went through turn 1 definitely further back than his starting position. With his talent, however, the Mazarrón champion was able to quickly straighten out his Sprint, once again finishing as the best rider among those not riding a Ducati/Aprilia.
