Max with the flu
The home weekend at Zandvoort has so far certainly not brought great joy to Max Verstappen, who would have liked to celebrate his last race on his home track differently as well as the contract renewal with Red Bull. Instead, after sixth place in this morning’s Sprint, the four-time world champion finished only in seventh place in qualifying and will start the race from the fourth row tomorrow. Next to him will be his teammate for this weekend, Liam Lawson, who managed to be only a tenth behind the Dutch phenomenon.

This disappointing Saturday for Verstappen can also be explained by health problems that are troubling the #3 from Hasselt. According to former Dutch driver Christijan Albers on Viaplay TV, Verstappen has the flu and his condition has worsened from yesterday to today. Verstappen himself, speaking with journalists from his country, confirmed that he is sick. In post-race interviews, however, the Red Bull champion focused mainly on the poor feeling he currently has with the RB22.

Changing a lot to change nothing
“Yes, we changed quite a bit [from Sprint to Qualifying] but it actually made no difference, so the balance remained practically the same as what I had all weekend, which didn’t allow me to push or feel comfortable with the car. This is the situation we find ourselves in – said Verstappen – different strategy from others for tomorrow? I don’t know, it’s hard to say at the moment, since we lack pace. We can only try to do our race and see if it leads to something positive or negative“.
