Porsche has decided: stop production of Taycan

Porsche has decided: stop production of the Taycan. It is not yet clear exactly when, but it will definitely be by 2030. The German automaker’s flagship fully electric model is taking a break, perhaps permanent, due to the constant decline in sales. Last year Porsche, which is going through a phase of difficulty in the market, had announced a significant reduction in electric vehicle development plans, affected by demand lower than expected. Now it emerges that Taycan will be among the victims.

Porsche Taycan will stop soon

Numbers don’t lie: electric car sales have decreased year after year, dropping from almost 41,000 units in 2023 to 16,000 last year and only 6,000 in the first half of 2026. La Stampa on newsstands this morning cites the German economic weekly WirtschaftsWoche, according to which the Porsche works council, representing employees’ interests, has reached a preliminary agreement with management to stop production of the model. It will be a phased elimination that will culminate by 2030, say some company sources.

Electric sales in constant decline

The trend in Porsche’s electric car market is also the basis for the German automaker’s decision to “leave” the Volkswagen Group and choose XPENG regarding emissions. Instead of combining its European emissions with those of the German giant for the 2026-2027 biennium, the Stuttgart-based company will in fact merge its data with that of the Chinese rival. This is reported by Carscoops citing a new report brought up by analyst Matthias Schmidt. It is a move that puts the VW Group in a more favorable position to reach its goals and avoid heavy fines: excluding Porsche from the group’s average, the average value tends to fall back within the desired range.
