From Haas to Tech3
After finishing his experience in Formula 1, having held the role of team principal of Haas from 2016 to 2023, Günther Steiner started a new adventure in the MotoGP world, becoming CEO of the Tech3 team following the acquisition of the French outfit. A move from the Circus to the premier class that would seem to have definitively ended the Merano engineer’s experience in Formula 1, but the first to consider a possible return was Steiner himself.

F1 not to be excluded
Guest on the podcast Up to Speed, the former team principal of the American outfit admitted that he is seriously considering a possible return to Formula 1, but under certain conditions: “I would come back if there was a project I like – he explained – I always say, just coming back to do a job? No. There are so many things I like to do. If you look at me, in the last 10, 15, or even 20 years, it has always been about projects. I wasn’t looking for a job, because doing a job I wouldn’t say bores me, but it doesn’t excite me enough. It has to be something that really challenges me“.

Not only in MotoGP
Regarding new projects, such as those undertaken in MotoGP, Steiner also focused on another career, this time built as a TV commentator: “When I left Haas, I went on television – he explained to former F1 driver David Coulthard, host of the podcast Up to Speed – I didn’t even know that sector existed. Then I got an offer and I said: ‘I’ll try’, because I wanted to be as good as David! I haven’t succeeded yet! So, there’s still a long way to go. It’s impossible! When I founded an F1 team, they told me: ‘You’ll never make it. No one can do it, founding a new F1 team’. ‘Okay, I’ll prove you wrong!”
