Pecco Bagnaia restarts from Silverstone after the operation
The Silverstone weekend reignites the engines of the World Championship and MotoGP after the three-week summer break. And while Marc Marquez’s chase for the leadership of the standings, now astonishingly “only” 18 points away, restarts, for Pecco Bagnaia the restart after the holidays has the taste of an already decisive test: the Turin champion took advantage of the long break to go under the knife, surgically resolving the long-standing discomfort of the compartment syndrome in his right forearm.

For this reason, the first day back will already be particularly challenging, with the minimum goal of getting through the first free practice sessions unscathed to obtain from the doctors accompanying the World Championship the “fit to race” clearance, meaning the go-ahead to continue the race weekend regularly. Certainly, Bagnaia has worked with his staff to recover from the operation on July 15, but also he has not yet gotten back on a MotoGP bike, nor has he ridden on a circuit like Silverstone, which is extremely demanding physically.

“Silverstone – explains Francesco Bagnaia – is a physically demanding track, which I face immediately after the arm surgery. I feel good and have recovered during these weeks off, but I have not yet gotten back on a MotoGP, so, after the ‘fit to race’, it will be crucial to understand my feelings and work well from the start. Otherwise, it is a circuit I really like: the fans are among the most affectionate and the atmosphere on track is among the best in the entire calendar”.

Last season the Piedmontese crashed during the fourth lap of the race, after finishing sixth in the Saturday Sprint Race. For Pecco Bagnaia, however, Silverstone is a track that has recently given pleasant memories: he won the 2022 British GP edition, also achieving a second place in 2023 and a third in 2024.
