Always on track
The summer break of the 2026 Formula 1 season, which essentially marks the halfway point of the championship, is a useful moment to draw up a balance sheet of what we have seen so far on track from the reliability point of view. One particular figure stands out and concerns Lewis Hamilton, who has risen sportingly speaking after a disastrous first season as a Ferrari driver. The Englishman, who this year achieved his first victory in red and is currently second in the standings 50 points behind leader Antonelli, has been the only one to complete 100% of the 673 laps scheduled so far this season. Behind him, with 668 laps, is Antonelli himself, who pays in this regard for the retirement suffered at the Barcelona GP, which forced him to stop five laps from the checkered flag.

Reliability is certainly the area that has given Ferrari the most satisfaction during the first half of the championship and in which the red team can be considered the leader on the grid. Charles Leclerc, unlike Hamilton, retired twice in the first 11 GPs, but only in Catalonia was stopped by a technical problem; the other retirement, in Monaco, was due to his own error. Ferrari has therefore been, so far, the team to complete the most km in races: 6573, almost 300 more than the second-placed Alpine.
Russell twice KO, McLaren nightmare
In third place is another team powered by Maranello, Haas, which has covered 6168 km, 31 more than Mercedes. The silver arrows are therefore fourth in this particular ranking mainly due to the numerous problems that have afflicted George Russell: the Englishman retired in Canada after 29 laps due to a technical problem and then did not complete even one lap in Belgium due to the accident that saw him come into contact with Lewis Hamilton. However, it should also be remembered that #63 was slowed down by a sudden power drop of the power unit, which played a central role in a delicate and chaotic situation like that of the first lap.

The top team that has paid the highest price for reliability problems is certainly McLaren: the Woking team is only ninth in terms of kilometers covered this season, even behind Audi. Only Aston Martin and Cadillac have done worse. Piastri has recorded one retirement, in Hungary, and Norris two, in Monaco and Canada, and all these problems were due to technical failures. Not to mention the embarrassing Chinese GP in which neither of the two papaya cars could take part in the Sunday race. A total reversal of the situation compared to the 2025 season, when it was McLaren that finished the World Championship with the highest number of kilometers covered, ahead of Haas and Mercedes.
