F1 Monaco, Free Practice 2 Report
Double in the morning, double in the afternoon: Ferrari sends an important message to the Monte Carlo paddock, confirming the predictions that saw the SF-26 favored on the winding Monegasque track due to a chassis superiority that guarantees greater effectiveness in slow corners. In the second free practice session, Lewis Hamilton leads with a time of 1:13.026: the Briton thus responds to Charles Leclerc, who beat him in the morning. Sir Lewis precedes his teammate by 111 thousandths, who, unlike FP1, has a poorer feeling in braking. Much better, however, is that of #44, much closer to the walls in the afternoon and therefore more able to find those decisive hundredths on the final lap.

Compared to the morning, however, the competition is getting closer. Max Verstappen confirms his third place, going from a half-second gap to one of 168 thousandths. Considering Red Bull’s habit of stepping up in the decisive phases of Saturday, and Ferrari’s opposite tendency not to excel in Q3, the Red team cannot afford to rest on its laurels even in these conditions.
Mercedes grows less, with George Russell finally putting his nose ahead of Kimi Antonelli after a series of very difficult sessions. The Bolognese driver finishes fifth, half a second behind Hamilton and with many complaints about the driveability in slow corners that compromises his corner exit. Top-10 for Isack Hadjar (Red Bull did well to get him back on track after the FP1 crash), Oscar Piastri, Oliver Bearman and the two Audis, with Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto still fast after their excellent FP1 performance. Electrical problems, however, for Lando Norris‘s McLaren, which stopped at the beginning of the session at the harbor chicane: another alarm coming from the batteries of the Mercedes power units, which have already betrayed the papaya team in China.
