Unexpected duel
The anger over the retirement and the missed podium has not yet passed for Oscar Piastri even though several hours have passed since the end of the Hungarian GP, but above all, the Australian driver has not at all gotten over the episode that saw him an unlucky protagonist together with Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard from Williams, who was lapped and was fighting with Fernando Alonso at the back, in fact heavily hindered what was at that moment the race leader. The two single-seaters even touched and a sensational accident was seriously risked.

Harsh attack
Although this was not the reason for Piastri’s retirement, the #81 papaya driver was still furious after the race about what happened with the former Ferrari driver, and speaking to journalists present in Hungary, he did not soften his criticism of his colleague in any way, quite the opposite: “There were blue flags on all the marshals’ panels. I was right behind him and I couldn’t believe what was happening. Being hit by a lapped car is never one of the things you expect to go wrong in a race. I don’t care if he didn’t see me. The fact that he didn’t see me, or that no one told him, or that there was a lack of full awareness, is unacceptable. He was fighting with Fernando for last place as if the world championship was at stake – Piastri said – it cost me the race lead. He is quite critical of others and other drivers in the past have criticized him for having a frustrating way of doing things on track. When you do something like that, I think maybe you should look in the mirror a bit“.
In another post-race interview, this time to the microphones of Dutch TV Viaplay, Piastri further reiterated his thoughts: “This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen on a race track – he commented – I don’t care in the slightest what excuse he gave“.
