Russell’s seat is not at risk
On paper, 2026 was supposed to be the year of George Russell and the Australian GP had fully met expectations. Immediately after the season debut, however, problems began for the English driver, who is currently 50 points behind teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli and with a partial victory record of 6 to 2 in favor of the Italian driver.

Il Corriere della Sera on the eve of the Austrian GP had anticipated that George Russell’s confirmation for 2027 was coming. According to the Italian newspaper, Russell and Mercedes had negotiated a 1+1 agreement a year ago.
The official confirmation has not yet arrived, but George Russell, speaking to Sky Sport Uk, wanted to reiterate that there’s no need to even discuss his stay with the team even in 2028.

“We haven’t discussed the 2027 agreement because there’s no need to discuss it – said Russell – there’s no question mark. I don’t want to go into details, but I will be at Mercedes in 2027 and that’s a fact“.
