Leclerc: “Are we favorites in Hungary? We should have been in Monaco too, Mercedes has something more at the moment”

The Ferrari driver keeps his feet on the ground

Before the summer break, F1 will stop at the Budapest circuit next weekend for the Hungarian GP. On paper, the Hungarian track should highlight the qualities of the Ferrari SF-26, but Charles Leclerc did not want to get carried away with enthusiasm after two weekends that were still above expectations on circuits that were unfavorable on paper.

“We are aware that our car will adapt better to the Budapest circuit than to Spa – Leclerc said to Sky – but even in Monaco on the eve we thought we were the favorites.”

“Mercedes is a great car even when you have to set up for going fast on more technical circuits – Leclerc added – I don’t think we are the favorites, I think Mercedes is a step ahead of us at the moment, but we will do everything to be there if there is an opportunity to win.”

It actually seemed ‘obvious’ that Ferrari would dominate in Monaco, but instead Antonelli had a perfect weekend taking pole position ahead of Max Verstappen and then the victory the next day in the race.
