Honda summed up the embarrassing Belgian GP weekend with just five lines, during which Lance Stroll was forced to retire and Fernando Alonso finished the race two laps behind. The Japanese essentially set the date for next week in Hungary, when the highly anticipated AMR26 2.0 is expected to arrive, bringing a flood of updates and innovations that Aston Martin and Honda’s leadership hope will at least allow the team to get closer to Cadillac.

Even the American team, despite being clearly the second to last on the grid, seems at this moment to be competing in a different championship compared to the green cars.

Waiting for Budapest
“The Belgian Grand Prix marks the last weekend before the cars are updated in the next two races – said Shintaro Orihara, Track General Manager and Chief Engineer of Honda – we conclude this race, from which once again we can only learn from the situation and move forward together with Aston Martin”.
Words of courtesy that, however, are not enough to mask the embarrassment of one of the worst seasons remembered so far for a Formula 1 team in the modern era. And at this point, expectations for the Budapest weekend soar: if even with the Newey upgrades the gaps and problems remain as they are now, then it could truly be called a historic disaster for Lawrence Stroll’s team.
