At the beginning of July, a biography of Frederic Vasseur was released in France (also available in Italy in the original language) curated by AutoHebdo journalist Jean-Michel Desnoues, titled “En Piste”
The story of the French manager’s career contains several behind-the-scenes and many curiosities told by people who knew him best in his motorsport journey, including Toto Wolff, Laurent Mekies, Charles Leclerc, and Jerome D’Ambrosio.

The behind-the-scenes: Vasseur at Wolff’s wedding
There has often been talk of the friendship between Frederic Vasseur and Toto Wolff, rivals on track leading Ferrari and Mercedes (recently there was a sharp exchange of words between them on the budget cap topic), but united by a long acquaintance lasting 25 years.
The book’s preface contains an intervention by Wolff himself, who recounted his relationship with the Frenchman, described as “a rival, but also one of my best friends in the paddock.”
As rivals, of course, the relationship has had its ups and downs: “Sometimes we argued, but most of the time we laughed. Our mutual respect and friendship have only grown stronger.”
In the pages written by Wolff, there is also room for a little gem that well illustrates the familiarity between the Austrian and Vasseur and concerns Toto and Susie’s wedding.

Wolff recounted: “Fred has been over the years my travel companion, my training partner, my tenant, and also a guest at my wedding with Susie, in Capri. That day he gave us one of the most memorable moments of the day deciding (after more than a glass of wine) that it would be wise to eat one of the flowers decorating the tables. Unfortunately, he had forgotten they were plastic…”.
A decidedly funny episode, which well frames the friendship between Wolff and Vasseur away from the tracks.
