Leclerc and Ferrari, the marriage continues
“Always red“: this is how Ferrari and Charles Leclerc announced the renewal of the Monegasque driver’s contract. The agreement represents a strong signal of the Scuderia’s intention to build its future around #16, at the wheel of the Rossa since 2019 and considered the reference point of Maranello’s sporting project. But how long will that last? Ferrari’s statement lends itself to many interpretations, merely announcing that Leclerc “will continue to wear the team’s colors in the coming seasons“.

According to the latest rumors, Leclerc and Ferrari have extended the terms of the previous agreement signed in 2024. The latter had a horizon until 2029, so with this renewal Leclerc should be a Ferrari driver at least until 2030 (with early exit clauses). For colleagues at The-Race, the agreement will last even beyond that year.
From an economic point of view, the renewal involves a significant increase in the driver’s salary, who will become the third highest paid on the grid behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The new agreement provides for increasing compensation in the coming seasons: according to the French publication Sportune, the new agreement provides for a compensation of 40 million euros in 2027, 44 million in 2028 and 50 million both in 2029 and 2030.

Beyond contractual aspects, the renewal represents a mutual declaration of trust: Ferrari believes it can win with Leclerc and the Monegasque evidently considers it the best solution to assault the title in the short term, considering that Mercedes and McLaren certainly do not have driver problems, Red Bull has Max Verstappen and Aston Martin started the new technical cycle disastrously.
Record numbers
Currently Leclerc is second only to Michael Schumacher in terms of number of GPs in Ferrari (180 versus 155), but he will clearly surpass him in 2027. Assuming 24 races per season and Leclerc at Maranello until 2030, the Monegasque would drive a Rossa for the staggering number of 268 races. The current record is held by the Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes duo (246), which could be beaten in 2027 by that of Verstappen and Red Bull (215).
