Charles Leclerc, minimum goal achieved
This time Charles Leclerc was a bit less of a protagonist than usual, yet he managed to bring home at the end of the Sprint Race of the 2026 Canadian GP at least the minimum goal of beating his teammate Lewis Hamilton under the checkered flag – thanks to a bit of patience and luck – (who was overall more in form, at least up to this point in the Montreal weekend). The 28-year-old Monegasque started sixth and remained sixth, somewhat anonymous, for almost all 23 laps of the Saturday race, only managing to overtake his garage neighbor right at the start of the last lap, taking advantage of Oscar Piastri‘s pass on Hamilton himself.

A Saturday that nevertheless did not start under the best auspices for Ferrari which, regardless of the result as the third force on track, clearly pays the price compared to Mercedes and McLaren on the straights of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Charles Leclerc is at least a bit more confident looking ahead to the rest of the weekend: “The problems yesterday in the sprint qualifying were not only related to brake balance, because there were a few things not exactly set right. But today it already went better and, even if it was not completely solved, I hope it will be for qualifying. If it is, I can have a slightly better feeling in this car”.
Leclerc also spoke about teammate Hamilton, who was evidently a bit more comfortable behind the wheel of the SF-26 throughout the weekend: “I think Lewis is very strong on this track, especially in qualifying. In race pace I actually felt very good with the car, but in qualifying I think it will be difficult. Obviously, we hope to be up there, because today I think we paid the price of starting sixth.” “So I hope that, if I have everything right for the official sessions, to be at least in the top 3. This will allow us to fight with the drivers ahead tomorrow,” concluded Charles Leclerc.
