The battle of updates heats up
Thanks to the news brought to Miami, McLaren has returned to consistently competing for top positions, achieving a double top-3 between Sprint (won and finished with a one-two) and GP. In the long race, Lando Norris troubled Kimi Antonelli, showing that the path taken in Woking is good. And, above all, it has just begun: even in Canada the papaya will have important updates on the MCL40. The areas touched are floor, chassis, front and rear wings, bodywork, halo, and roll hoop. This was announced by Andrea Stella’s team.

Particular attention is focused on the new rear wing, as a few weeks ago Rob Marshall – McLaren Chief Technical Officer – admitted that the papaya were closely watching the “Macarena” brought to the track first by Ferrari and then taken up by Red Bull.
McLaren’s choice confirms what was already known since the beginning of the year: 2026 will be a development battle, with performance improving race after race, and it is not certain that the hierarchies seen in Melbourne will be those of Abu Dhabi.

In Canada, moreover, the first major package from Mercedes will also debut, the team that best interpreted the start of the new technical cycle. Toto Wolff’s team has won the first four GPs of the championship, but has no intention of resting on its laurels, precisely because developments on the cars will be very important. And above all, McLaren and Red Bull have shown they know how to improve, changing face from one weekend to another.
