An unlucky race
From the very first stages of the Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram, Marc Marquez did not seem able to keep up with Marco Bezzecchi’s pace and found himself in a battle with Raul Fernandez, Pedro Acosta and Jorge Martin in a tight fight for the podium. On the 22nd of the 26 scheduled laps, however, a puncture put an end to the reigning world champion’s race. A puncture, as later clarified by Michelin, caused by an impact that was too strong with the curb at Turn 4.
Marquez therefore leaves Thailand with 9 points, 23 points behind leader Pedro Acosta and -16 from Marco Bezzecchi.

Marquez’s comment
To the microphones of Sky Italia, Marc Marquez confirmed: “In my opinion, the tire exploded on the curb. The rear end stepped out at the corner, yes, but in my opinion it was normal, I had entered hard. I saw it stepping out behind me and so I told myself to go to the safest part, which is off the track and come back in, even if I lost time. Usually the problem is when you re-enter the track, because these kinds of things happen there, but instead it happened going out, I don’t know why. In my opinion, it was the curb that made everything explode. The luck is that I didn’t fall.”

Marquez had the podium in his sights, suggesting he had managed for much of the race: “Today we suffered, but second place was possible. We were suffering, but in the end I felt strong enough to at least take third or even optimistically second. My race strategy was very clear, at the beginning I wanted to save my physical condition and tires and when there were 10 laps left, give it my all. At the beginning I was losing, but then I recovered. We didn’t have luck, because 100 riders jumped that curb and nothing ever happened.”
