MotoGP Austria, Qualifying Report
Three riders within 87 thousandths: the Red Bull Ring menu offers this tasty appetizer in Qualifying, closed with the pole position of Jorge Martin (1:27.917), followed by Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta. The sharp and angry Martinator of 2024 is back, who goes out alone for the last time attack and sets a deadly time on a track that theoretically should favor Ducati and Acosta himself. The progress on the setup seen in Misano and the confidence in the front of the RS-GP26 are confirmed for a Martin who returned to riding at the limit: fourth pole position in Austria and 23rd in the top class (tied with Max Biaggi) for the Spaniard.

Marquez can be satisfied with second position based on a great race pace and a layout that has always favored Ducati. Many risks in the most technical sector of the last time attack (between Rauch corner and Würth corner) for the world champion, who therefore has to give up and stay in P2. Acosta is 87 thousandths from pole, and he can be very troublesome on pace for both Martin and Marquez and truly dream of his first MotoGP victory.
Marco Bezzecchi finishes in fourth position, two and a half tenths behind his teammate, confirming he is a step behind the top riders this weekend. Accompanying him in the second row are Ai Ogura and Alex Marquez (who crashed in turn 1 in the final stages of Q2). Good P7 for Francesco Bagnaia, who emerged from Q1 with the same time as Johann Zarco: “Pecco” reacts to a terrible Friday and stops half a tenth from the second row. Raul Fernandez disappoints again, out in Q1: he will start 13th.
