‘Chaos’ resolved
Coming down from the bitterness of Misano Sunday, Marco Bezzecchi needed to start the Austrian GP weekend with a positive result. The Rimini rider succeeded, securing direct access to Q2 tomorrow, but there was a thrill as the Aprilia rider recorded only the ninth time in the Practice, risking what would have been a sensational elimination. However, in the traditional end-of-day interview with Sky Sport MotoGP, Bezzecchi appeared more satisfied than his ranking might have suggested.

“Like every Friday, it was a complicated day – Bezzecchi said to Sky – but I am quite happy. Ninth place doesn’t make me super happy, but the goal in the end was to get into Q2 and we achieved it. During the time attacks I made a few too many mistakes, I practically didn’t do the first one, I messed up a bit with the red flag. Then I wanted to come back with the same tire but I made a mistake and stopped to change it. But we worked well on the pace. The bike behaves well and the guys were good as always. Overall it’s a positive day“.
Braking and tires, crucial points
“Stopping the bike was one of the things that troubled us – Bezzecchi added – here it’s not easy, there are many braking points and I have to manage to position myself better in these types of corners, especially in the braking part, which then also affects the cornering part. Tire management? Certainly the tire plays a fundamental role here, especially the wear in the middle part because here it’s all accelerations and so we will have to work and try to create a balanced bike – concluded the #72 of Aprilia – we need a good flying lap because qualifying is fundamental, but also that the bike is not too ‘contaminated’ with the tires“.
